Overview: With thousands of dollars at stake, it is wise for you to explore the variety of available pathways to achieving your educational and career aspirations. Your high school academic performance may have qualified you for the South Carolina Palmetto, LIFE, or HOPE Scholarship program. Based on your EFC (computed by the FAFSA) you may also qualify for the U.S. Pell Grant and South Carolina Need-based Grant. Institutional scholarships, based on financial need and areas of merit (e.g., athletics, academics, music, etc.), private scholarships, and military scholarships (i.e., ROTC) may provide further financial assistance. However, after all of these sources of financial aid are tallied, you may still be left with thousands of dollars in unmet costs, resulting in thousands of dollars in student loan debt.
The purpose of this activity is to assist you in weighing the costs of entering directly into a 4-year institution with those of beginning at 2-year institution.
