Overview: Over 800 colleges and universities nationally have test optional admissions policies. This activity both expands and overlaps with the information provided through the Careers and College Majors, Cooperative Education Programs, and Honors Colleges activities. The disadvantage of low SAT or ACT scores can be overcome by applying for admission to institutions with test optional admissions policies that do not require submitting SAT or ACT test scores. However, students interested in applying for admission to test optional institutions must still meet the institution’s admissions standards. This activity provides guidance in developing a preliminary listing of test optional colleges to supplement the Developing a Preliminary College List activity.
